In my lifetime I have been blessed to have a parent and grandparent that loved to travel. When my brothers and I were small it was nothing for my moma to get the kids packed up and go on an adventure. Whether that meant getting lost “on purpose” in the woods or going to the beach with little to no money she was up for it and of course so were we. The stories that were told, sights that were seen were awe-inspiring, scary, fun, dangerous, happy, unforgettable memories that will stay with me and have shaped the human that I have become. I do hope that I have inspired my children and grandchildren to travel, experience new things, to realize that there is a much bigger more diverse world than in our small town.
I have two very exciting adventures coming up in my life that I hope to write about. The first, a self-sustained bicycling trip down the eastern coast of Florida with my brother that is happening in just a little over 2 weeks! The excitement is overwhelming at times and I feel very unready. I am not the stereotypical cyclist (although I would like to be.) I am overweight, over 50 and I smoke, which I am trying somewhat hard to quit. But I do enjoy cycling and I think this trip will be one of the most awesome things I have ever done in my life.
The next big adventure will be when my husband and I drive south to Alaska. South?? Yes, we will start in Virginia sometime around the first week in April, go south, possibly to Florida but at least to South Carolina meander to San Diego, California to Montana through Canada and to Alaska. We have allotted three months but hopefully that can be extended if we want or need it to. We will be camping and very much on a budget. While we have the time, we only have but so much money. We can make a little go a long way and that is how that’s going to work. I am really excited about this trip because I get to plan the whole trip while the Florida bike ride is going to be a collaboration between myself and my brother.
So, come along on my adventures!
